The new Citius SCR has been developed to be the most economic off-road diesel engine in the world. The new engine complies with Stage 3A emissions regulations without sacrificing fuel economy. The Citius SCR design enables its use in various off-road applications, including tractors, combines and industrial equipment.
The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) after-treatment system together with SISUTRONIC electronic engine management system offer a significant improvement in fuel economy. The Citius SCR decreases operating costs by about 10% compared to other Stage 3A engines. This adds up to outstanding savings in operating costs on an annual basis and especially over the entire life span of the engine.
The traditional way of reducing emissions involves a compromise between emissions reduction and fuel economy. The new Citius SCR does away with the need for compromises. SCR combined with SISUTRONIC offer significant reduction in fuel consumption compared to traditional Stage 3A engines. In addition to improved fuel economy, engine power and torque characteristics have also been enhanced, and the throttle response is faster.
Reduced fuel consumption also means a significant reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Due to highly optimised combustion, particulate emissions are only a quarter of the Stage 3A limit. This is especially beneficial in cities and indoors. Other gaseous emissions, such as hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions, are lower than generally in Stage 3A engines.
The optimized combustion also decreases heat rejection by around 15%. As a result, the cooling package can be lighter and more efficient. The engine dimensions, mounting points and technology are similar to previous SisuDiesel engines, allowing many of the same parts to be used for the entire engine family. Also, as the installation dimensions remain the same as on previous Citius series engines, the re-installation is uncomplicated, for the benefit of machinery manufacturer.
The life span of SCR equipment is equal to the engine’s lifetime, and the system is practically service free. The operator hardly notices the presence of SCR at all. What the operator will notice is the significant savings in operating costs. The AdBlue consumption is only 3 % of the diesel fuel consumption and cost of AdBlue is typically less than diesel fuel. The SCR diagnostics are integrated into the SISUTRONIC electronic engine management system via CAN bus. There is no need for additional service tools or expensive diagnostic interfaces in the vehicle. Due to the high efficiency of the combustion, SCR technology allows long oil drain intervals – even up to 1000 hours depending on application.
SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology will be essential for meeting the strictest emissions limits at the beginning of the next decade, but there is no need to wait. The technology offers big savings in costs and helps protect our environment – already today.
