100 % Biodiesel can be used with SisuDiesel engines

SisuDiesel common rail engines are approved for use with 100 % biodiesel (B100). This means that all SisuDiesel engines can be fuelled with 100 % biodiesel (B100).

Sisu Diesel INC. has accomplished extensive tests with biodiesel with positive results. The biodiesel fuel must comply with EN 14214 or ASTM D 6751 norms. The biodiesel used in Europe is typically rape methyl ester (RME), whereas in North America soy methyl ester (SOME) is generally used. Other plant oils can also be used to produce biodiesel. The biodiesel fuel must be esterified. Non-esterified, cold-pressed or other biodiesel fuel that does not conform to the above norms may not be used.

SisuDiesel engines do not need to be modified before using biodiesel. However, the engine oil, oil filter and fuel filter must be changed twice as often as required by the normal service interval. In addition, Sisu Diesel recommends that a separate pre-filter be fitted between the fuel tank and engine if biodiesel is used regularly. The water filter should be checked frequently and carefully, as biodiesel is more liable to absorb condensed water than normal diesel fuel.

Engine performance with biodiesel is the same as with normal diesel. Biodiesel does not damage the environment in the same way as regular diesel, for example if it accidentally leaks into the ground.
